Analysis: 5 reasons you might avoid the DSi

Nintendo's new DSi is certainly an intriguing device: larger screens, downloadable content...it's hard to resist picking one up. There are, however, reasons you should think twice before putting it on your wish list:

1) Don't Fret: The DSi's lack of a GBA slot obviously means none of those will play, but it spells the end for the Guitar Grip as well. The first Guitar Hero: On Tour title may have not been a masterpiece, but it has sold more than enough to continue the series, and it just won't work on the DSi.

Nintendo Media Summit Roundup: DS

The biggest news from Thursday's Nintendo Media Summit came for the DS. The rumors were true, and the company unveiled the DSi, a new model of the system with two cameras, larger screens and no GBA slot. It also has built-in memory, a SD card slot and the ability to download DSWare, cheap downloadable titles much like on the Wii.

That wasn't the only announcement, though:

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon: The remake of the original Famicom Fire Emblem is coming to the U.S. early next year. Among the new features is the ability to loan out characters to friends and have them returned retaining the extra experience.

Mario and Luigi RPG 3: It looks like this next entry in the series is leaving behind Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, returning to the dynamic of the original title. Both were brilliant, so we're excited to learn more about this one when it hits in 2009.

Nintendo Media Summit Roundup: Wii

At Nintendo's press conference Thursday, the company revealed its plans for the coming months. There were certainly some things that were already announced, but there was also a surprise or two:

Sin and Punishment 2:
In a move that will once again (falsely?) raise the hopes of Mother fans everywhere, Nintendo has decided to give this Sin and Punishment sequel a retail release in the U.S. The company cites impressive Virtual Console sales of the original. Due sometime 2009.

WiiWare:
All of these titles are presumably coming in this year, though that's not confirmed: Tetris Party, with gimmicky variations on the classic; Strong Bad Episode 3, a foray into SB's musical side; Boingz, by XBLA success story NinjaBee; and indie favorites World of Goo and Cave Story.
